How To: Opening Stuck Nail Polish Caps

Any time I have to google something I like to add it to my How to page. After all, if i wanted to find out the answer sure others do also. So when doing my Konad Special Polish swatches I couldn't get one of my bottles open. These were the following methods I found that don't required you breaking your teeth!

Method 1: Rubber/Elastic Band

If you're having difficulty gripping the lid to open the bottle you should try wrapping an rubber band around the lid. The rubber band will give you something to hold onto and give you the necessary grip to apply pressure to the lid.

Method 2: Nail Polish Remover

Often nail polish becomes stuck between the bottle opening and the lid causing it to seal together. Lay your nail polish down and some paper towel pouring some nail polish remover just over the opening to try and dissolve the dried nail polish. Alternately you can soak a cotton ball or wipe with the remover and wrap it around the rim or dunk the nail polish lid into a container of remover. Once the dried nail polish is removed the lid should open.

Method 3: Hot Water

This is the method that I used to open my Konad Special Nail Polish lid. Place some hot water , just out of the tap should be hot enough no need to boil it, into a container, I used a glass, and place the nail polish upside down into it. By placing the lid into the hot water it liquefies the dried nail polish and the lid easily comes off.

Method 4: Whack It!

If you're getting frustrated at the lid not opening you might have already tried this one! The idea is to whack the nail polish lid area against a solid surface to try and dislodge the dried nail polish. Once dispodged it loosens the lid and can be opened.

Method 5: Freezer

Another suggestion if you have nail polish dried sticking the lid closed is to place the nail polish in the freezer. Apparently the cold turns the nail polish back into a liquid form loosening the lid and allowing it to be opened

Remember, once you get your bottle open you don't want it happening again so use a cotton pad with nail polish remover and wipe the top of the bottle.

You can always try combining several of these techniques to get your bottle open!
